When Chicago’s favorite stuffed deep-dish pizza restaurant celebrates the grand opening of its 68th location, there’s just one way to celebrate: with a giant pizza party, of course! Giordano’s will commemorate the official opening of its new restaurant in northeast Phoenix on Wednesday, Sept. 5 – National Cheese Pizza Day – with a celebration that involves the whole community and plenty of cheesy, piping-hot pizza.
Four years ago, many Arizonans had their first taste of Giordano’s when a 28-foot food truck traveled cross-country from Chicago to Mesa to be part of the Chicago Cubs’ spring training game experience. At the end of 2016, Giordano’s opened its first Arizona location in Peoria, where Chicago transplants embraced the chance to get reacquainted with the No. 1 deep-dish pizza of choice in Chicago, and the official pizza of the Chicago Cubs. That warm welcome prompted the opening of the brand’s second location, near Paradise Valley Mall.
“Phoenix is full of Chicago transplants, and they know their deep-dish pizza,” said Christine Friszell, general manager of the new Giordano’s in Paradise Valley. “We love watching them rediscover Giordano’s in Arizona, and introduce our Chicago-style, stuffed deep-dish pizza to their friends and families. It’s an experience we look forward to sharing with the northeast Valley.”
To celebrate the grand opening of the new restaurant, on Wednesday, Sept. 5 the restaurant will hold a family-friendly celebration starting at 4 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to discover what makes Giordano’s more than a restaurant; it’s an experience. Part of that experience is the “cheese pull” – guests of all ages will have the opportunity to create their own cheese pull photo when they raise a slice of piping hot cheesy pizza far above the pie. Patrons who post their cheese pull photos from the event with the hashtag #Giordanos on social media will have a chance to win a $25 gift card in Giordano’s weekly #PhotoFriday contest.
Additional highlights of the evening will include an array of samples that encourage guests to get to know Giordano’s complete menu beyond the pizza, a host of interactive family-friendly activities and photo opportunities, along with gift basket and gift card giveaways.
Following the event, Giordano’s will serve lunch and dinner daily from its 6,400-square-foot dining room and covered patio. The restaurant will be open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Delivery, catering and carry-out options also are available.
