Equal parts ambitious, architectural undertaking and hotly anticipated social hangout, The Churchill will officially welcome guests starting Saturday, Sept. 1, with a grand opening celebration planned for later this fall.
All Local, All the Time
The Churchill’s impressive tenant mix includes a hand-picked assortment of Arizona-based businesses, offering plenty of opportunity for supporting local artisans and purveyors, and it does so in the same central setting, creating an undeniable draw for the ever-growing DTPHX crowd.
Additionally, each business is committed to devoting a set amount of time to community service efforts every month as part of their involvement in the project.
“The Churchill has an intensely local focus, from our tenants to lending a helping hand to the surrounding neighborhoods,” said Kell Duncan, who co-founded The Churchill alongside partner Hartley Rodie.
The following concepts are set to open inside The Churchill this September:
Breadwinner, a brand-new restaurant concept by Culinary Mafia Group, the talented team behind Scottsdale’s EVO
The Brill Line, which offers a wide range of regional craft brews in a friendly, laid back setting
Pobrecito, a new cocktail concept from the Barter & Shake team, known for Counter Intuitive and Undertow
Provecho, a food concept that offers bold flavors from Central Mexico
Freak Brothers Pizza, a food truck turned brick-and-mortar, which cooks up Neapolitan-style pizzas in 90 seconds using a 1,000-degree oven

Your New Community Hangout
The Churchill creates an ideal community gathering spot, thanks to a central courtyard area with seating for 300 guests and a second-story rooftop deck that offers sweeping views of the surrounding city. A growing collection of local art and murals adorn the walls throughout the space, while hand-crafted furnishings give locals and guests a place to pull up a chair and simply hang.
With design-build by Local Studio, The Churchill builds on the firm’s previous container projects, using an unconventional medium to create unique gathering spaces for its guests.
“Shipping containers are popular due to the demand for sustainable building techniques and the authentic experience and mystique they provide, especially in the desert,” said Local Studio Founder Brian Stark.
The Churchill also lends itself to private parties, serving as the city’s newest spot for group happy hours, birthday celebrations and even weddings.
