The highly anticipated second location of Angels Trumpet Ale House (2339 N. 44th St., 602.698.1234) in Arcadia is now open for lunch and dinner, daily from 11 am to midnight. Even tastier, Angels Trumpet Arcadia, and the adjacent Tall Glass cocktail lounge, are co-hosting a Grand Opening party on Friday, August 10 from 3 pm to midnight. Famed for its ever-changing menu of 30+ craft and specialty beers (and wines) on draft, Angels Trumpet Arcadia will be uncorking severalexclusive, super-rare kegs just for the grand opening. Plus, the first 250 people to arrive will receive a complimentary limited edition Angels Trumpet Arcadia t-shirts. And all grand opening guests are invited to enjoy Angels Trumpet's weekday Happy Hourfrom 11 am - 6 pm, followed by specially-priced beer flights from 6 pm till midnight.
Led by local restaurateurs, Sharry & Mat Englehorn, who founded the original Angels Trumpet Ale House in downtown Phoenix in 2012, this stylish second location is housed inside a revitalized mid-century modern space that was formerly a Sears Auto Center. Situated in the heart of Phoenix's popular Arcadia neighborhood, Angels Trumpet Arcadia/Tall Glass is located inside the the Arcadia Crossing shopping center on the SE corner of 44th Street and Thomas Road in Phoenix. Plus, the couple also plans to eventually open a small microbrewery onsite, which Mat Englehorn describes as, "an intimate brewers playground, where we'll make the sort of beers that we like to drink."
"We live right around the corner, so we've had our eye on this building for years," says Sharry Englehorn. "We know from personal experience that this stretch of south Arcadia was missing a fun and welcoming all-day hangout, where you can pop in for a tasty lunch or sip drinks on the patio and watch the sun set on Camelback Mountain."
But first, the couple had to strip away decades of garage grime and patchwork redesigns to reveal the stylish mid-century foundations of this low-slung 10,000 sq.-ft. space, including restoring a vibrant orange mosaic tile mural near the entrance that had been covered in countless layers of paint. "Originally built as a Ward's Auto Center in the late 1950s, this is the last remaining building of the former Thomas Mall," Mat Englehorn says. "So we wanted to honor that history and preserve the wonderful architectural bones, as well as preserve elements of the tire shop by keeping the industrial look, and the beat up floor-just adding a lot of polish."
Angels Trumpet Arcadia features the same irresistible food menu and casual indoor-outdoor layout as the original. Not to mention Angels Trumpet's signature (and ever-changing) selection of local and national craft beers available on tap, with today's offerings written on an oversized slate chalkboard. Seating approximately 240 people, including a fully private 46-person dining room with TV & audio capabilities, the spacious, soaring main dining room boasts garage-style rollup window walls, custom mural artwork lining the walls and two spacious (and shaded) outdoor dining patios.
Carved into the west side of the building, Tall Glass is a separate craft cocktail lounge with its own entrance and extensive menu of craft cocktails, including spirits from craft beer distilleries such as Rouge Spirits and Cutwater Spirits (founded by San Diego's Ballast Point brewery). Here, guests can belly up to the 40-seat island-style bar, relax in a cozy booth, or unwind on an outdoor patio featuring a mature palo verde shade tree, all hidden behind a stylish perforated steel fence constructed from repurposed WW2 airplane runway strips. Serving a compact menu of gourmet bar bites, Tall Glass guests are also invited to order from the entire Angels Trumpet food menu.
Designed by Mat and Sharry Englehorn, with assistance from Lance Baker of Synectic Design (The Van Buren) and constructed by Alexander Building Company (who also worked on the original Angels Trumpet in downtown Phoenix), Angels Trumpet Arcadia is open daily from 11 am to midnight, while Tall Glass is open daily from the 3 pm to midnight.
