Ncounter and Waste Not

Waste Not, Arizona’s only perishable food rescue organization, has joined the nationwide awareness movement for Hunger Action Month through a special fundraiser with local restaurant, Ncounter, this month. In celebration of its new location in downtown Phoenix (888 N. 1st Ave), Ncounter will offer guests substantial discounts on beverages - $3 for all beers and specialty cocktails, including their craft Bloody Marys, mimosas and frosé, and $1 for coffee – September 22-24 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with proceeds benefiting Waste Not. This grand opening event partnership not only serves as a fundraiser, but also a kick-off to Ncounter’s new commitment to Waste Not as an ongoing excess, perishable food donor from the downtown Phoenix and Tempe locations, as well as the third location at Scottsdale Airpark that is slated to open later this fall.

“Our Grand Opening Weekend is a momentous opportunity to celebrate our new downtown location and Ncounter’s emerging partnership with Waste Not,” said Kathryn Blackwell, president chief marketing officer for Due North Holdings.

This month is dedicated to inspiring people to take action and raise awareness of the fact that in Arizona, nearly 1 in 3 children grow up in poverty, with limited access to adequate nutrition needed to help them learn and grow.

Waste Not provides a unique approach to solving the hunger problem in Arizona by rescuing perishable food from food donors such as grocers, caterers, resorts and restaurants and delivering the food to a network of over 100 nonprofits who are dedicated to feeding the hungry and making our community a better place. Without warehousing food and with door-to-door same day delivery, Waste Not ensures that its recipient agency partners are provided with fresh, nutritious food daily.

"Research shows that full tummies aid in learning, in developing strong minds and bodies, and in enabling young people to grow into healthy, secure adults,” said Dee Mitten, president and CEO of Waste Not. “We hear of hungry children being unable to discern

whether they are sick, or hungry. We must all unite to do what we can to get behind this crucial community and national issue and help feed our hungry kids. We are so thankful that Ncounter is committed to partnering with us in this noble cause."

About Waste Not

Established in 1987, Waste Not is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit that feeds thousands of hungry people in Arizona every day. With one in three children going to bed hungry every night, and 16.1 percent of the population in the state living in poverty, hunger remains a prevalent issue. The organization’s trucks and drivers are on the road six days per week to answer this need by collecting an average of 12,000 pounds of excess perishable food from restaurants, resorts, caterers, grocers and various other food purveyors – food that would otherwise be thrown away. Waste Not delivers the food the same day to more than 100 diverse agencies that feed the hungry including schools, after-school programs, daycare centers, rehabilitation centers, transition homes and senior facilities. A record 2.9 million pounds of food was transferred in 2016. For more information about Waste Not, please visit www.wastenotaz.org.
